Intro to Plumbing Instructor
Yestermorrow’s programs are offered in various formats ranging from 2-12 day courses, 4-12 week certificates and a 16 week Semester in Design/Build. The curriculum covers a variety of topics related to design/build including carpentry, architecture, woodworking, building science and landscaping. Instructors are generally hired on a per diem basis for courses that align with their specific area of expertise.
Yestermorrow is seeking an instructor to teach basic plumbing principles and design considerations as part of the Certificate Programs and Semester in Design/Build. This content can be taught through classroom lectures, hands on mock up demonstrations, site visits and on the job site.
Sample topics include:
- Design considerations
- Water supply systems
- Water heating options
- Pipes, fittings & valves
- Fixtures & connections
- DWV systems (drain, waste & vent)
- septic systems (conventional and alternative)
- greywater systems
- Hands-on practice with PVC, pex and copper connections in a demo wall
This position would require the equivalent of 25-30 days of teaching throughout the year. This could take place in a variety of mutually agreed upon times including evenings, weekdays and weekends.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, develop and refine curriculum
- Develop lectures and presentations
- Teach curriculum following Yestermorrow’s standards and guidance
- Create a welcoming and safe learning environment
- Follow and enforce Yestermorrow’s safety protocol
- Maintain a clean and orderly job site classroom
- Instructors are responsible for teaching and upholding Vermont Residential Build code at a minimum
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will have several years of experience working with residential plumbing systems as either a plumber or a builder with enough expertise to teach novice design/builders basic plumbing concepts. They will also have some informal or formal teaching experience.
Instructors without previous teaching experience may be requested to audit and/or observe a Yestermorrow class before teaching.
Instructors must have proven proficiency in their field. This proficiency can be demonstrated through
